A Way of Life
Homebuyer

This installation asks people to think about what house they would like to buy. In doing so people are forced to consider the implications of their preferences, both for themselves, and to the public at large.
This is intended to encourage the conclusion that choice in housing has consequences for the landscape and the rest of the market.
For example individual desires for bigger gardens and more open views make them harder to have for everyone, and people paying more for houses push up prices for others.
These connections between private desires and actions and their public consequences are often ignored. The house is increasingly seen as a financial product, rather than as the setting for domestic life.
Owning a house becomes an end in itself, with little regard for social and environmental concerns
