A Way of Life
Discussion doors

This installation extends the urban planning dialogue to a wider number of people answering questions provided by others in the area, allowing an individual to gauge the opinions of their locality.

A question is projected above a set of double doors with a clear yes / no decision. A webcam on the other side detects the motion of which door has been opened and adds one to a counter recording the results which are projected immediately after going through the doors. This real time feedback allows people to see their response in relation to the majority of responses so far, and perhaps question their own instant reactions and opinions.
There is then an opportunity for people to ask their own questions via a website which projects their questions above the doorway. Through this they can find out what others think about a certain subject and become involved in preparing the area of debate.
