Neighbourhood Planning methods and tools
Urban Design London are working to provide support on neighbourhood planning. We produced this basic ‘how to’ guide
using material by Nick Wates.
The guide aims to provide a summary of some of the commonly used methods and the general process of engagement in planning and urban design.
There are a variety of strongly held views on what constitutes best practice in this field, some of which emerged at the UDL session we launched this booklet. For example, there may be a decision on whether it is preferable to gradually build trust through slow and continued engagement, or promote a shorter and more intense period of engagement. Either way it was clear that community engagement should not be seen as an add-on to conventional masterplanning or design, but instead to see the design process as open for engagement throughout.
